Important Update: Apache Spark™ Add-On Will Reach End of Life on Instaclustr Platform on 10 Aug 2025
In June 2023, NetApp Instaclustr began the process of retiring the Apache Spark™ Add-On for Instaclustr for Apache Cassandra®, closing it to new customers.
Now, almost two years later, as part of our ongoing platform evolution, we have decided to transition the Spark add-on to End of Life (EOL). This marks the final step of its retirement, with all remaining Spark add-on support and functionality being discontinued.
Key Dates & Impact
- End of Life (EOL) Date: August 10, 2025
- Affected Versions: All Apache Spark versions, including Spark 2.1.1, 2.1.3, and 3.3.2. You can view more details about Spark versions on our application lifecycle status page.
-
Impact:
- Whilst existing clusters will continue to operate with Spark installed, after this date, these clusters will be in an End of Life lifecycle state. As such, they will no longer be supported by Instaclustr and will not be eligible for Production SLAs.
- Instaclustr will no longer provide maintenance, patches, or security updates to any Apache Spark version.
- Customers will need to migrate their Spark workloads to an external Spark environment.

Migration Options
To ensure a smooth transition, customers using the Apache Spark add-on with Apache Cassandra on the Instaclustr platform can consider the following alternatives:
- Ocean for Apache Spark: Serverless Spark-on-Kubernetes – managed cloud-native Spark platform that can be deployed in your cloud account.
- Run Spark clusters independently on a self-managed environment outside Instaclustr.
- Other third-party Managed Spark Services.
